Here we will properly remove any startup files found in the above directories with the word 'Launch' in them - before moving onto the next section that will search your drive for any leftover files. Typically apps create files in directories like /Library/LaunchAgents, /Library/LaunchDaemons, and /Library/Preferences, and ~/Library/Preferences and ~/Library/LaunchAgents, with other files lying around elsewhere. Stop and unload any startup files associated with the app You should get confirmation if successful. And if you get an error, chances are you need permission, so use the 'sudo' command, eg: pkg suffix, so only use it if it is there. Or whatever the actual package name is from the above results. Once you've done that, you can even remove the package receipt by: Then select the file with a mouse/trackpad and delete it. Or use terminal to open Finder to list files: To list all the files and subdirectories:Īnd delete the Mackeeper file either by typing: You can navigate to them by using the path you see in the results with the 'cd' (change directory) command prefixed to them, eg: If any are outside of /Applications, you'll want to delete those, because they wouldn't have been deleted after deleting the Mackeeper.app (or whatever it's called). That should show all the files that were installed by Mackeeper. If so, type this in terminal and use the Mackeeper/Zeobit package name (substituting my example '') that you see in the results in the following command, eg: Somewhere there you may see the Mackeeper name and/or their company name, Zeobit. That should show you any app that used a package for installation that isn't from Apple. See if there is a package receipt, and if so list its files, delete them, and remove the package from the listĬopy and paste the following into the terminal app and press enter: Launch Terminal or iTerm or any terminal app that you like. Here's what I've done to remove it from a friend's Mac: Thank you all for the help! Seriously fuck Mackeeper so much. Apparently it's also dangerous to have besides it just being really annoying.Įdit: Adware medic fixed everything. It's this annoying pop-up that I can't make stop happening.
Basically every time I click new tab or click a link it opens up this weird search engine or the mackeeper installation page. It's part of the mackeeper malware but everything I've tried searching and Looking up won't get rid of it.
Does anybody know how to get rid of this shit?Įdit: I uninstalled it, but these pop-ups keep showing up, I guess it's still here?Įdit: I appreciate all of you trying to help but I can't seem to get rid of this "quick search". And no it's not even listed in my login items at all. I tried a safe boot by holding down shift but it was all glitchy and laggy (I don't know if that was normal) but I still couldn't drag it into the trash. Apparently it's because it is still running in the status bar. I try dragging it to the trash but it won't go in. It makes my Mac slower and every time I click on a new link or open a new tab I keep getting these irritating pop-ups. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc.
